PRIDE participants can easily be spotted by their EBEA red PRIDE polo shirt they receive for helping the Association show PRIDE! The committee welcomes feedback and suggestions from all EBEA members. If you would like to have your students show their PRIDE at a BOE meeting or have an idea for a PRIDE event, please see your building representative or contact Jo-Anne Bijas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Throughout the 2016-17 school year, the PRIDE Committee (Partnerships Result in Dynamic Education) will continue to build positive relationships with the East Brunswick community through a variety of school/community-wide events.
In July, the PRIDE Committee partnered with VFW Post #133 to support their annual 5K walk/run to raise funds for local veterans and their families. Several hundred East Brunswick residents took part in this annual event. The PRIDE Committee supplied participants with t-shirts and color changing cups bearing the EBEA logo. The event was a huge success and was enjoyed by all who participated.
Some PRIDE events continuing this year include:
- East Brunswick Community Day in September. Parents who visit the PRIDE table are given “Who We Are” brochures and entered into a free raffle basket. Children are treated to free gifts and giant hamster ball races. This event is a great way for members of the community to meet Association members, learn more about us, and have fun all at the same time!
- The distribution of brochures on Back-To-School Nights as a way to “introduce” the many members of our Association to parents.
- “Learning Across the District” where staff members and students attend Board of Education meetings to showcase the great things happening in our buildings everyday.
In addition, the PRIDE Committee is currently working on some new initiatives for this school year. In the works, is the development of a community “rotary club” made up of a cohort of Association members and stakeholders in the community (leaders of community organizations) who will meet and discuss ways in which we, as an Association, can continue to establish strong community ties. The PRIDE Committee is planning an event that will support the fundraising efforts of the girls volleyball team during their annual Pink game on October 18th. In November, the PRIDE Committee will partner with the East Brunswick Alliance for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in a Town Hall meeting held for parents and students. Additional information about these events will be forthcoming and available from your PRIDE Building Captains.
The PRIDE Committee is always looking for new ideas and new people to get involved!! PRIDE provides excellent opportunities for the community to get to know staff members on a more personal level, beyond what we do in our buildings every day. (And, PRIDE events are a great way to demonstrate community involvement for Danielson’s Domain 4!) Please contact your Building Captain or PRIDE Committee Chairperson, Jo-Anne Bijas (email@example.com) if you would like more information and would like to become part of this very active and exciting EBEA Committee. Have a great school year!
